Bennett:
I’m Bennett. I’m an actuarial analyst, and I am currently in the process of studying to become an actuary.
I spend more time than I’d like to admit studying. It’s normally about 800 hours a year.
I was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis, also known as EoE, when I was a baby, and I’ve lived with it for most of my life.
Eating was always difficult, especially in my younger years.
I had acid reflux. I was vomiting. I went through all these single elimination diets with no change after each one, eventually coming up to doing a full elimination diet. And I had to have a gastric tube inserted in my stomach, which let me put this formula straight into my stomach without ever touching my esophagus.
After doing that full elimination diet, we still weren’t able to find what the cause of my EoE was.
From that point, we tried doing treatment after treatment, including some experimental therapies.
Eventually, we stopped treating my EoE altogether after nothing helped treat my symptoms. We felt like we were left with no options.
Then I heard about DUPIXENT.
Until DUPIXENT came along, there was no FDA-approved treatment for EoE.
I like that DUPIXENT targets the inflammation, which is an underlying cause of my EoE.
Before I started DUPIXENT, I told my doctor about all the medical conditions I had and medications I was taking.
My doctor and I talked about the potential benefits and risks of treatment, including the most common side effects such as injection site reactions…
…and also some serious side effects, including allergic reactions that can sometimes be severe and joint aches and pain.
I started on DUPIXENT, and then at my next endoscopy appointment six months later, my doctor saw significant improvement in the inflammation of my esophagus.
As soon as I heard that news when I woke up, I started crying. I knew that after the years-long journey that we had been on, we had finally found something that could help me treat my EoE.
Thanks to DUPIXENT, I saw a reduction in inflammation in my esophagus, and I had less difficulty swallowing food.
Of course, this is just my experience with DUPIXENT. Everyone’s experience with DUPIXENT is going to be different.
It’s a great feeling knowing that I no longer have to worry about my EoE every second of every day.
If you’re out there struggling with EoE, don’t give up. There is a treatment available. DUPIXENT might be something that could work for you.
Sara:
My name is Sara. This is my daughter Liv. Liv is a high school teenager, loves sports, hanging with her friends, creating art. She was also diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis.
Liv:
I wasn’t diagnosed with EoE until I was 13, but I think I’ve had it my whole life.
Sara:
Liv has had reactions to different foods, everything from melons, honey, some vegetables, soy products, eggs for sure.
Liv’s reactions were often coughing, choking, throwing up.
Liv:
When my esophagus is inflamed, it feels really itchy and irritated and it just hurts a lot.
Sara:
We tried a lot of different treatments. We just kind of accepted that this was going to be the way life was going to be moving forward.
One day our allergist talked to us about DUPIXENT. DUPIXENT reduces the eosinophils in the esophagus that contribute to inflammation. It was a really big change for us.
Before Liv started DUPIXENT, I told her doctor about all the medical conditions she had and medications she was taking.
Her doctor and I talked about the potential benefits and risks of treatment, including the most common side effects such as injection site reactions…
…and some serious side effects, such as allergic reactions that can sometimes be severe and joint aches and pain.
We started seeing improvements in her symptoms in just a few weeks. The next time Liv had an endoscopy, we saw a reduction in inflammation.
I was very excited for Liv. Of course, this is just our experience, everyone’s experience with DUPIXENT is different.
Liv:
It’s easier for me to swallow. I don’t have to think about EoE as much when I’m eating meals or snacks and I don’t have to constantly be checking in on my throat just to be like: Am I having a reaction? Is this hurting?
Sara:
As a mom, it’s so great to see Liv eat and swallow with less difficulty. And for her to be able to go out and think less about EoE. Just really proud!
